MINNEAPOLIS – The Colorado State swimming and diving team finished the first day of the Mountain West Championships and already set new records. The Rams set a new school record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.70, while Skylar Williams scored points in the 1-meter dive. CSU currently sits in 8th place with 107.50 points.

The Rams started the day with the 1-meter dive and sophomore Skylar Williams tied for 13th place with a 242.65 prelim score and 256.00 final score, which scored 13.5 points for the Rams – more than the total diving points from the 2018 Championships. Rachel Holland also placed 26th in the preliminaries with a 226.20.

In the second session of the day, Colorado State placed third in the 200-yard medley relay with a mark of 1:39.70, which set a new school record. The previous mark was set last year at the 2018 Championships with a 1:39.77. The relay scored 54 points for the Rams and was made up of Tonicia Thomas, Madison Ward, Julia Box and Kristina Friedrichs who all earn All-Mountain West honors for the third-place finish.

The final event of the night – 800-yard freestyle relay – saw the Rams finish in ninth place with a time of 7:26.23 and scored 40 points. The relay group included, Ida Donohue, Andrea Basile, Hope Jestes and Haley Rowley.

The 2019 Mountain West Swimming & Diving Championships will continue tomorrow starting at 10 a.m., MT with the 500-free prelims, 200 IM prelims and 50-free prelims. Diving events will start with the 3-meter diving prelims at 11:30 a.m., MT followed by the 500-free finals, 200 IM finals, 50 free final, 3-meter finals and 400 medley relay all starting at 5:30 p.m., MT.
