Donohue named to All-MW SAAC Community Service Team

Senior is Rams' representative for prestigious MW honor
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Mountain West on Thursday announced the 2018-19 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Community Service Award winner and All-MW SAAC Community Service Team, which includes Colorado State swimming and diving student-athlete Ida Donohue.
Donohue, a senior from Corvallis, Ore., is a Mountain West SAAC representative for CSU, and has contributed innovative ideas to SAAC in the areas of community service and engagement. She joins 10 other distinguished student-athletes from around the MW.
"Ida is selfless in her desire to serve others and improve her community," said CSU swimming and diving head coach Christopher Woodard. "She represents the best ideals of our program and CSU. She's exactly the type of citizen and neighbor we would all want to live in our community."
Donohue was the thought leader behind the strategies that led CSU's SAAC organization to a second-place finish among all CSU student groups in the CANS Around the Oval competition last fall, raising the equivalent of 4,397 pounds of food for families in need in Larimer County. In addition to helping with athletics department service initiatives like New Student Move-in and donating items to a local nonprofit on her own, Ida spearheaded efforts to show appreciation on campus, including distribution of thank you cards and gift certificates from student-athletes to CSU staff.
For the 14th-consecutive academic year, the members of the MW SAAC challenged each other in a league-wide competition for the Community Service Award. For this year's contest, Mountain West institutions counted their total hours of assistance while participating in various service activities throughout their respective communities.
From March 2018 to February 2019, the league's 11 MW institutions combined for 28,292 hours of community service under the Challenge's current format. The University of Nevada won the MW SAAC Community Service Award with a total of 7,102 hours of service. The U.S. Air Force Academy finished second with 4,099 service hours and Boise State finished third with 3,080 hours.
On Thursday, the league honored the Nevada Wolf Pack before the first game of the men's basketball championship with a presentation at half court.
In conjunction with the MW Community Service Challenge, the Conference also announced its All-MW SAAC Community Service Team. In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes outside the field of competition, one student-athlete from each institution was recognized for going above and beyond in helping to promote and participate in community service activities. The following student-athletes comprise the 2018-19 All-MW SAAC Community Service Team:
