Rams earn the doubles point but can't capitalize in singles
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Colorado State earned the doubles point but couldn't capitalize in a 5-2 loss to Yale Wednesday in San Diego, Calif. With the loss, the Rams fell to 7-6 on the season while the Bulldogs improved to 6-8 on the year.
"We're still close with good teams," head coach Jarod Camerota said. "We want to beat good teams, but we are going to need to keep working hard and have great energy for the team. We can definitely do it. It's been a little lull in our season, but no doubt in my mind, we'll be ready for these last seven matches, six of which are in conference. This trip will definitely help us get a comfort level at the site of the conference tournament. Our ultimate goal is to peak then."
The two squads split the first two completed doubles matches as Yale won at No. 1 with Emily Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo earning a 6-3 victory at No. 3. The battle at No. 2 came down to a late break, as Riley Reeves and Alyssa Grijalva pulled out a 7-5 win to give the Rams the first point of the match.
The Bulldogs came back and were strong in singles, getting five straight-set victories. The only win for CSU came at No. 4, where Priscilla Palermo came back after getting shutout in the first set for an 0-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory.
NEXT UP
The Rams will remain in California, taking on San Diego State in a Mountain West conference match on Thursday at 3 p.m. MT.
