Field replacement project allows opportunity to further highlight partnership with Canvas Credit Union
FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Canvas Stadium logo will be featured on the playing surface inside Canvas Stadium when the field replacement project is completed in July. It was announced March 28 that the field, including the turf and the materials that formed its base for drainage, would be replaced to meet the required percolation performance specifications.
Today the field design was revealed, and it displays the Canvas Stadium logo along with all of the other design and markings included on the previous playing surface installed when the stadium opened in 2017. The field will continue to bear the name Sonny Lubick Field, as displayed in the boundary area in all four corners of the field.
Canvas Credit Union and Colorado State University announced a landmark partnership in 2018 that included naming rights to the stadium nearly one year after it opened. The $37.7 million partnership agreement announced in April 2018 stands as one of the largest collegiate athletic venue naming agreements in history, and was part of an ambitious re-branding initiative being undertaken by the previously branded Public Service Credit Union.
Work began this week on the field replacement project, and is expected to be completed by mid-July. The project will have no financial impact on the Department of Athletics, or the University as a whole, as the work is covered as part of the original construction specification requirements. The project requires replacement of the playing surface and the substrate beneath it, and the new surface will again be manufactured by Shaw Sports Turf.
With spring practices completed, and preseason camp not scheduled to begin until August, the project will not disrupt the football program's preparation for the 2019 season.
