Women’s basketball’s Hannah Ronsiek earns inaugural award

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – When Isaiah Stevens stepped off the court for the final time wearing the Green and Gold in March of 2024, he left a legacy that would long be remembered at Colorado State. It went well beyond his stats, the wins and memories on the court, but was about who he is as a person and what he meant to CSU and its community.

That legacy now lives on beyond the memories, as Director of Athletics John Weber and the athletic department established of the Isaiah Stevens Ram 4 Life Award.

"Isaiah Stevens embodied what it meant to be a stalwart Colorado State Ram during his entire career in Fort Collins," Weber said. "His great plays, whether it be his pull-up jumper or electrifying passes, to who he was as a leader and teammate, and in the community, are why people always mention Isaiah's name amongst other great Rams. It is an honor to establish this award in his name to celebrate those who have made an impact during their entire college career in Fort Collins."

"I want to thank Director of Athletics John Weber and the entire CSU Athletics Department for the honor of naming this award after me," Stevens said. "I am grateful for the five seasons I was able to spend in Fort Collins, making lifelong friendships, memories I will never forget, and it helped shape me into who I am today. CSU and Fort Collins will always hold a special place in my heart."

Each year, the honor will be awarded to a Colorado State student-athlete who meets the following criteria:

·        A CSU Student Athlete who has exhausted their entire eligibility at CSU

·        Best represents what it means to be a Stalwart Ram

·        Excelled on the playing surface, in the classroom, in the locker room (great teammate), etc.

The inaugural recipient of the award was announced Monday evening at the Rammies, CSU Athletics' annual celebration of the athletic year. Fittingly, it went to another hooper in women's basketball, Hannah Ronsiek.

Ronsiek was an instrumental part of Colorado State women's basketball throughout her career, leading the program to four consecutive 20-win seasons, a Mountain West Tournament Championship, and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The program's second leading defensive rebounder in her career, Ronsiek leaves CSU, also ranking in the top 10 in 3-pointers and blocks, demonstrating excellence on both ends of the floor.

The Isaiah Steven's Ram 4 Life Award will be given annually alongside the Nye Award (Most Outstanding Male Athlete), Virginia K. Frank Award (Most Outstanding Female Athlete), Merril-Gheen Award (Most Outstanding Male Scholar Athlete), Mencimer Memorial Award (Most Outstanding Female Scholar Athlete) and Male and Female Fum McGraw Award winners.
