Rams have hauled in nine MW weekly awards in six weeks of outdoor competition

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado State's men's and women's track and field programs continue to dominate the landscape of Mountain West Athlete of the Week awards in the 2019 outdoor season, picking up three more this week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Sophomore sprinter Jessica Ozoude has been tabbed as the women's outdoor track athlete of the week by the MW, senior sprinter Nathan Gish is the men's track athlete of the week and redshirt-freshman thrower Jackson Morris is the men's field athlete of the week.

This week's honors give the Rams nine MW track and field weekly awards in the six weeks since the outdoor season began in late March. Seven different CSU athletes have been recognized among the nine awards, with senior thrower Shadae Lawrence and redshirt-freshman thrower Adam Dawson each being two-time winners.

Jessica Ozoude – MW Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
  • Ozoude's time of 23.10 in the 200 meters shattered her own CSU outdoor record of 23.46 for the event, set the week before in California.
  • The time of 23.10 ranks first in the MW this season and 30th on the NCAA list this year.
  • The Sparks, Nev., native—graduate of Spanish Springs High School—has had a sensational outdoor season both in the sprints and relays.
Nathan Gish – MW Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
  • Gish's personal-best time of 21.14 in the 200 was No. 7 all-time at CSU and best in the MW this outdoor season. It is the fastest by a Ram since 2007.
  • His personal-best time of 10.59 in the 100 was No. 15 all-time at CSU and the fastest men's outdoor 100 by a Ram since 2015.
  • Gish, a graduate of Poudre High School, also ran the third leg of CSU's 4x100, which finished in a season-best time of 40.79, the 2nd-best time in the MW this outdoor season.
Jackson Morris – MW Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
  • Morris threw the javelin a school-record 225 feet, 4 inches, topping the 25-year old school record of 223-11 set by Mattias Borrman on May 18, 1984.
  • It is the longest javelin throw in the MW this season and 27th-best in the NCAA by the redshirt-freshman from Albuquerque (N.M.) Academy.
The Rams will take this weekend off from competition and continue to prepare for the MW Outdoor Championships in Fresno, Calif., May 8-11.
