PULLMAN, Wash. – Colorado State couldn't string together the birdies to make a run and are current 11th in a tightly-bunched field after the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Pullman Regional Monday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Washington State University, is being played at Palouse Ridge Golf Club (Par 70 – 7,232 yards) in Pullman, Wash.

CSU shot a 1-under 279 for the day but the round could have been better, as the Rams were unable to capitalize on the par-5 holes, finishing them just 3-under on the day for the four counting scores. No. 20 Texas A&M is the opening round leader at 11-under 269, one shot better than No. 5 Oklahoma in second at 10-under 270. No. 8 Georgia Tech is third at 9-under 271, followed by No. 32 BYU at 8-under 272 and Michigan State in fifth at 7-under 273. Just 10 shots separate first from 11th in this elite field.

The Rams were led by sophomore Parathakorn Suyasri, who shot a 1-under 69 despite battling a minor illness, putting him in a tie for 23rd. Suyasri had a team-high four birdies on this card for the day. Three Rams shot even-par 70s, as senior Jake Staiano, junior AJ Ott and freshman Davis Bryant all tallied the total and are tied for 37th. Staiano rallied on the final hole with an eagle on the par-5 18th to reach the mark, while Ott was the most consistent on the day with 14 pars on his card. Freshman Oscar Teiffel rounds out the Rams' team effort at 1-over 71 in a tie for 51st. A trio of players are tied atop the individual leaderboard, as Chandler Phillips of Texas A&M, Oklahoma's Garett Reband and Carson Lundell of BYU all posted 6-under 64 as 36 of the 75 players in the field finished under par for the day.

For the second round, the Rams will go off No. 10 starting at 8:55 am PT, playing with Kent State and Northern Colorado. Live scoring is available at http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&&lb=&x=0.320288853875&tid=18127.
