Rams add transfer Ignas Sargiunas to the program

The 6-5 guard played his freshman year at Georgia, will sit out and have three years of eligibility remaining
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State men's basketball has added transfer Ignas Sargiunas (Kaunas, Lithuania/ Jonas Basanavicius Gymnasium (Georgia)) to the Rams, the program announced today. Per NCAA Division I transfer rules, Sargiunas will sit out the 2019-20 season and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Sargiunas his first collegiate season at Georgia, seeing action in 20 games overall. He logged double-figure minutes in three contests, including a season-most 14 minutes at Temple. The 6-5 guard averaged 1.8 points, 0.5 rebounds and 5.8 minutes a contest, shooting 40.0 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line. He tallied a season-high seven points on two occasions and averaged 4.3 points in his first three Southeastern Conference contests.
Sargiunas has won four medals in international competition representing Lithuania, including gold at the 2015 U16 European Championships and bronze at the 2017 U17 World Championships. At the U17 Worlds, he led Lithuania at 13.0 points a game, scoring in double figures in five of the seven contests. In the semifinals against the U.S., he tallied a team-high 15 points against a roster that featured six eventual NBA draft picks.
The guard has spent the previous two club seasons with his hometown club Zalgris II. In the most recent season in 2017-18, he started 29 of 46 games played, averaging 10.5 points, 2.7 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 0.8 steals to help the team to a 20-18 mark in 2017-18 and a runner-up finish in Lithuania's second-division NKL playoffs. He scored in double figures in 26 contests, including a season-high 26 points in the quarterfinals against KTU.
The guard is the sixth signee in the 2019 signing class so far, joining joins David Roddy (Minneapolis, Minn./Breck School), Isaiah Stevens (Allen, Texas/Allen HS), James Moors (New Zealand), Dischon Thomas (Durham, N.C./Hillcrest Prep) and John Tonje (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Central HS).
