Three-time first-team discu All-American seeks second title
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – With Shadae Lawrence eying her second NCAA Outdoor discus championship, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association is watching her.
Tuesday, the Colorado State senior was one of 10 women nationally to be placed on the 2019 Pre-NCAA Championships watch list for The Bowerman, an annual award given to the top collegiate performer in each gender. Lawrence as also on the Post-Conference Championships watch list, released May 15. The list has one change since, with Teahna Daniels of Texas replacing Colorado's Dani Jones.
Lawrence was a three-time first-team All-American in the discus while at Kansas State, winning the national title in 2017. In her one season with the Rams, she had stretched herself considerably. She won the Mountain West Championships with a throw of 213-5, one that stands as the best in the nation this year and the sixth-best all time. Only two women have thrown a discus farther than Lawrence in NCAA competition.
Her event takes place the final day of the meet at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium in Austin, Texas. The first flight of the discus is set to begin at 4:05 p.m.
