The 6-4 guard transfer from Ohio will sit out the 2019-20 season and have two years of eligibility remaining
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State men's basketball has added transfer Teyvion Kirk to the program, head coach Niko Medved announced today. Kirk will sit out the 2019-20 season, per NCAA Division I transfer rules, and have two years of eligibility remaining.
A native of Joliet, Ill., the 6-4 guard spent his first two season at Ohio University in the Mid-American Conference. He started in all 62 games he played over those two seasons, averaging 14.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 31.3 minutes per game. He shot 42.8 percent from the field, 29.9 percent from the arc and 63.6 percent from the free throw line.
Last season, Kirk averaged 14.1 points per game on 41.9 percent from the field while also grabbing 5.5 rebounds a contest and handing out 2.5 assists a game. He scored in double figures in 27 of 31 games, with three of 20 or more. A 2017-18 All-MAC Freshman team pick, he led the team in scoring his first year, averaging 15.3 points per game, 12th in the MAC along with 1.4 steals per game, eighth best in the conference. He tallied 10 or more points in 28 games with six contest with 20 or more. He had a career-high 24 points on two occasions, once in each season as he did it against Central Michigan as a freshman and Austin Peay as a sophomore.
"We're really excited about adding Teyvion," head coach Niko Medved. "Teyvion is a big guard that's really versatile and is a terrific two-way player. He has been highly productive in a good league and we think, after you're sitting out a year and learning the system, is going to be a big piece of what we're doing moving forward."
In high school, he was a standout at Joliet West as he helped lead the Tigers to a 24-6 overall record and a second-straight appearance in the Illinois High School Association Class 4A sectional title game as a senior in 2016-17. That season, he averaged 19.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 steals per game, earning Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Class 3A/4A Second Team All-State honors, Associated Press Honorable Mention All-State and Southwest Prairie Conference Most Valuable Player awards.
He joins a significant signing class already for Medved, as six others have already signed with the Rams for next year, with five of them immediately eligible for action.
