Ott captures Southern Amateur crown on second playoff hole

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Rising-senior AJ Ott posted a birdie on the second playoff hole to capture the title at the 113th Southern Amateur Championship presented by Chenal Properties today. The four-day, 72-hole event was played at Chenal Country Club (Par 71) in Little Rock, Ark., July 17-20.
Ott opened the tournament with 70 and 73 to make the cut at 1-over by three shots. He made a surge up the leaderboard with a 7-under 64 in the third round, tied for the low round of the tournament, to move up into the top 10. On the final day, he shot a 4-under 67 in the final round to post a 10-under 274 in a tie with Noah Woolsey of Pleasanton, Calif., who competes collegiately at Washington. The pair tied on the first playoff hole before Ott won the event with a birdie on the second playoff hole.
Among the past champions are eventual PGA Tour event champions Ben Crenshaw, Bob Tway, Mark Brooks, Steve Lowery, Justin Leonard and Webb Simpson.
