The rising senior defeats his Ram teammate by one shot after recently winning the Southern Amateur
DENVER, Colo. – A pair of Colorado State Rams battled it out for the low amateur at the 2019 CoBank Colorado Open this past weekend, with rising senior AJ Ott coming out on top by one shot over rising sophomore Davis Bryant for the honor. This is the third time in four years that the Rams have had the low amateur in the tournament, as recent graduate Jake Staiano was low am in 2017 and Jimmy Makloski earned the honor in 2016.
Ott finished with a four-round total of 11-under 277, tying for 20th overall in the field. Ott posted rounds of 70, 71, 67 and 69 and was tied for fourth in the tournament for under-par holes with 25. This comes on the heels of the Fort Collins native winning the prestigious Southern Amateur less than 10 days ago.
Bryant finished at 10-under 278, recording rounds of 68, 71, 67 and 72 on the par-72 layout at Green Valley Ranch, eventually placing 28th. For Bryant, this was a homecoming, as he got his start in golf at the First Tee of Green Valley Ranch, the beneficiary of the tournament's charity proceeds.
Several former Rams were also among the top-20 finishers in the tournament. Zahkai Brown of Arvada tied for 12th and Mesa, Arizona's Blake Cannon tied for 15th. Sam Saunders of Albuquerque, N.M., won the tournament with a total of 24-under 264.
