Rising-sophomore leads wire-to-wire in earning the one-shot vicctory
LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Rising-sophomore Davis Bryant started out on top and led wire-to-wire in winning the 2019 Colorado Golf Association Amateur Championship. The four-day, 72-hole event was played at Lakewood Country Club (Par 71) in Lakewood, Colo., Aug. 7-10. This marks the second summer event win for the Rams, as rising-senior AJ Ott recently won the 113th Southern Amateur Championship presented by Chenal Properties and was low amateur at the Colorado Bank Open.
Bryant opened with a 6-under 65 and followed it up with a 3-under 68 in the second round to lead by four shots. A slight bobble in the third round with a 2-over 73 trimmed his lead to a single shot, but the sophomore posted a 1-under 70 in the final round, tying for the second lowest score of the day and giving up one-shot victory at 8-under 276. Bryant was solid throughout, making just six bogeys and one double bogey in the 72 holes while posting 16 birdies.
