Rams pick up nine wins in opening rounds

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Playing for the third weekend in a row, Colorado State's women's tennis team took on the role of hosts as the Jon Messick Invitational played three rounds on Saturday at the CSU Tennis Complex.

There was one round of doubles, with the Rams picking up a win from the duo of Riley Reeves and Emma Corwin, topping New Mexico State's Kaela Di Giulion and Bella Nguyen, 6-3. The tandem of Emily Luetschwager and Stella Cliffe dropped their match with a different Aggies team.

There were two rounds of singles play, with Rams Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo each winning two matches, while teammates Cliffe, Reeves, Alyssa Grijalva and Emma Corwin all won once.

"It's kind of a mix -- some good, some not-so-good and some average," CSU coach Jarod Camerota said. "I think we did well. I think we've got to be better tomorrow to really come through and finish it. The biggest thing [for us] is to have that belief that we can win any match. There might be a downswing for us or an upswing for our opponents, but we're good enough that we can still win it if we stay calm and persevere through it and believe in ourselves."

The tournament continues Sunday with play starting at 10 a.m.
