Team gains valuable experience playing third weekend in a row

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - After completing the final matches in the Jon Messick Invitational, the Rams claimed eight wins of their 10-match finale and have learned competing until the end and finishing strong is going to be important for them as they move ahead for regionals.

"Our goal and key in every tournament is to finish strong," coach Jared Camerota said. "We took on a big challenge playing three weekends in a row, and I thought we gained a lot of match experience today and came out with the mindset of finishing strong."

Sunday, the Rams closed out their home event at the CSU Tennis Complex, by picking up wins in fpur of the five doubles matches they played. In singles, Priscilla Palermo, Emily Luetschwager, Riley Reeves and Anastasiia Kotsyuba won matches, Luetschwager needing a third set.

The past three tournaments of playing experience has allowed the Rams to gain a better idea of where they're at as a team, as well as what they need to work on going forward this season.

"We need to have that confidence and belief that we can come out and beat every team that we play," junior Emma Corwin said. "Today was a lot of fun, and I think as a team we're starting to build off of that confidence between each other and it's helped us grow a lot this fall."

The Rams recognize each match won't necessarily go their way, however Camerota emphasizes you can create success by remaining calm and trying to persevere through any challenge.

"The biggest thing I tell my team is to have courage and confidence in every shot that they take," Camerota said. "Whether you make the shot or miss it, just have pride in the fact that you went for it, so that's what we're looking to continue doing and how we've gained experience."

Now that this team has completed three-weeks of consecutive play, their main focus is shifting towards getting healthy and practice as they get prepared to head to Las Vegas for the ITA Regionals beginning Oct. 23.
