CSU improves three shots in its second round against a nationally-ranked field
ROCKY FACE, Ga. – Colorado State improved three shots on its opening round score and is tied for seventh at the 2019 Carpet Capital Collegiate Saturday afternoon. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Georgia Tech, is being played at The Farm Golf Club (Par 72 – 7,180 yards) in Rocky Face, Ga.
In a field that features five teams in the top 25 and three others receiving votes in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, the Rams posted a 7-over 295 and is tied for seventh at 17-over 593 with Charlotte and East Tennessee State. Late in the round, two Rams rallied for late birdies to help the effort and keep CSU close to the top five, trailing South Florida in fifth by just four shots and just eight shots out of third. Host Georgia Tech is the 36-hole leader at 7-under 569 as the only team under par, leading North Florida in second by 12 shots as the Ospreys are at 5-over 581. Alabama is in third at 9-over 585, followed by Clemson in fourth at 11-over 587 and South Florida in fifth at 13-over 589.
Senior AJ Ott leads CSU following a 1-under 71 on the second day to post a two-round total of 1-under 143 in a tie for fourth. Ott was solid in his final nine with two birdies and seven pars for a 2-under 34. Sophomore Davis Bryant shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 13th at 2-over 146. Junior Cullen Plousha and sophomore Parathakorn Suyasri are tied for 47th at 9-over 153, with Suyasri having improved five shots on the second day with a 2-over 74. Sophomore Oscar Teiffel is tied for 76th at 18-over 16 following an 85 in the second round. Georgia Tech's Luke Schniederjans is the individual leader at 9-under 135, taking a seven shot lead into tomorrow's final round
For its last 18, CSU will again go off No. 1 tomorrow morning, starting at 8 a.m. and playing with East Tennessee State and Charlotte.
