A Final 17-6 Run Propels Rams To Road Win At San Jose State Saturday

CSU takes a tie game and earns the win by making 13 of its last 14 field goal and free throw attempts combined

SAN JOSE, Calif.  – Colorado State outscored host San Jose State 17-6 in the final segment of the game in earning an 81-70 Mountain West victory Saturday afternoon at The Event Center in San Jose. With their fourth victory in the last five games, the Rams improved to 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference while the Spartans had their three-game home win streak snapped and fell to 6-12 and 2-4 in the league.
 
With the game tied at 64 at the final media timeout, CSU was strong in putting this game away, as freshman David Roddy gave the Rams the lead for good with five consecutive points on a put back and a conventional three-point play to make it 69-64 with 2:26 to play. Sophomore Kendle Moore then canned a three from the right side of the arc to push it to eight and the margin go to no fewer than seven the rest of the way. After struggling at the free throw line in the first 37 minutes, Colorado State took advantage seal the win, going 10-of-11 at the charity stripe. over the final 2:26.
 
CSU finished the game 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the field and 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from the arc, while San Jose State was limited to 35.3 percent (24-of-68) from the floor and 33.3 percent (10-of-30) on threes. The Rams controlled the glass 49-35, including 13 offensive rebounds.
 
Roddy and fellow freshman Isaiah Stevens each posted 21 points, with Roddy adding seven rebounds and Stevens seven assists. Redshirt-senior Nico Carvacho had a game-high 16 rebounds to go with his six points. SJSU was paced by Seneca Knight with 21 points, though he was held to just 7-of-20 from the floor.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
• In the final 3:06 of the game, CSU made 13-of-14 shots taken (3-of-3 on field goals and 10-of-11 at the free throw line).
 
NOTES
• The Rams have now won all 19 meetings between the program, nine of them in San Jose. All but one have occurred since 1997, with 14 of them in conference play.
• CSU leader Niko Medved has an 2-0 record against San Jose State as a head coach.
• This was the sixth consecutive game with 10+ points for Isaiah Stevens and fifth consecutive for Roddy
• The Rams are now 8-2 when leading at halftime and 9-1 overall (3-1 on the road) when outrebounding its opponent.
• Roddy's 21 points were a season high, as he has averaged 18.0 points over his last six games.
• Stevens' seven assists was the eighth game of five or more assists this season for the freshman
• Carvacho recorded his third game this year of 15 or more rebounds.
