Colorado product has started every game of his career

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Burlsworth Trophy was established in the honor of former Arkansas offensive lineman Brandon Burlsworth, a walk-on who became an All-American. On Tuesday, the committee announced Colorado State offensive lineman Barry Wesley as one of 67 nominees for the 2020 honor.

Wesley, who walked on to the program after attending Bear Creek High School, has become one of the Rams' top offensive linemen, starting every game of his career, a streak which has reached 26 consecutive games. As a redshirt freshman, Wesley saw game action at all five positions along the offensive front.

His impact on the university has extended far beyond Canvas Stadium, as he was named the 2019 Albert C. Yates Student Leadership Award recipient, presented annually to a student who displays strong involvement through leadership and a commitment to upholding the university's values, traditions and spirit. Wesley, who was put on scholarship prior to his redshirt freshman season, is involved with the John Mosely Student-Athlete Mentoring program, the President's Multicultural Student Advisory Committee, has participated in the Green and Global program and has attended the Black Student-Athlete Summit for three consecutive years.

The Burlsworth Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding football player in the country who began their career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field.

The Burlsworth Trophy will host an awards ceremony virtually on January 4, 2021 to honor the three finalists and to announce the 2020 winner.
