FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After capturing Mountain West's best shot-put throw of the season plus the second-best weight throw mark, junior Tarynn Sieg garnered MW's Field Athlete of the Week honors, announced Tuesday by the league office.
At the Don Kirby Invitational, Seig, of Eaton, Colo., tossed the shot put 52'7.25'' – six inches farther than the next competitor, teammate Maria Muzzio, on the conference list for the season. Nationally, the mark checks in at No. 32 in the NCAA. For comparison, the nation's leading throw comes in at 59'7.5'' and Sieg's personal best is 56'1'' – the third best in Colorado State history. In the event down in Albuquerque, N.M., Seig finished third behind two Towson throwers, while Muzzio took fourth.
The day prior inside the Albuquerque Convention Center, Sieg measured 62'6.60'' in the weight throw for MW's second-best mark of the season. She trails Boise State Kendra Noneman for top spot by seven inches. On the NCAA Indoor performance list, Sieg's toss stands 67th in the nation.
For the shot put, Sieg improved 1'3'' from her previous season-best mark, while the weight throw was an improvement of 2'2.75''.
The award for the week of Feb. 12-16 is Sieg's first of her career. It is the fourth weekly award this track season for CSU, joining Allam Bushara, Tom Oates, and Muzzio.
Up next, the Rams will travel down to the one-day Air Force Open on Friday, Feb. 21. The MW Championships are set for Feb. 27-29 in Albuquerque, N.M.
