Pentathlon and DMRs Lead Rams in Day One of Mountain West Championships
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Two Colorado State top-10 all-time pentathlon scores along with two podium finishes in the distance medley relay highlighted the first day's action in the Mountain West Championships Thursday inside of the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Senior Amelia Harvey and sophomore Lexie Keller finished second and third, respectively, in the pentathlon with career days. Harvey, of Colorado Springs, went from ninth on CSU's all-time list to third after scoring 3870 points, earning eight points for the Rams who lead on the women's side after the conclusion of day one. Having herself a day in her hometown in front of family and friends was Keller as she put up 3807 points to go from outside of the top-20 all-time to seventh.
On the last event of the five, Harvey crossed the 800-meter race in first place with a personal record of 2:20.06, which jumped her from fourth to her podium finish. For Keller, her day started with a PR in the 60-meter hurdles and added two more including the 800m that also advanced her two spots to get a medal. The other PR occurred in the high jump at 5'8'', which was good for first place and put her in a tie for 13th in school history.
Prior to the pentathlon's finish with the 800m, the men and women's distance medley relay offered an exciting break in the action. First, the CSU men's team that featured all freshmen took the track for the 1200-400-800-1600-meter sequence. Tom Oates, Tom Willems, Ryan Birkmeier, and Thomas Chaston clocked a 10:02.77 for third place, scoring six points for the only men's event to conclude on the day. On the women's side, Lauren Offerman led it off for CSU with Yolonda Johnson, Bailee Carr, and Ali Kallner following, resulting in a second-place finish. Kallner, the senior on the squad, concluded the race, securing eight points for CSU right before the pentathlon would add 20 more.
The other six points came from Aria Tate (4) and Jordan Lanning (2) in the pentathlon with fifth and seventh-place finishes, respectively. Lanning, a freshman from Bayfield, Colo., tallied PRs in the shot put and 800m, while tying her best mark in the 60-meter hurdles en route to the school's 14th-best score at 3594.
Also, in action was Eric Lundgren and Mauricio Galindo Vega in the men's heptathlon. Through four of the seven events, Lundgren leads 2937 – 27 points ahead of Air Force's Wyatt Murphy. Galindo Vega is just behind in third place at 2689. The event kicks off Friday at 10 a.m. with 60mh, pole vault, and the 1,000-meter race.
Other field events commence at 12:30 p.m. with qualifying track events starting at 1:30 p.m.

On Day One…
"Both teams competed extremely well in the first day. Our multi event crew had numerous lifetime bests and were Ram Tough all day. The DMRs had some youngers carrying the batons, but they competed like veterans. It should be a fun team meeting tonight."
