Junior makes preseason list for second consecutive season

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After finishing the 2019 season with a flourish, the feeling is Trey McBride is just getting started at Colorado State.

For the second consecutive year, the John Mackey Award committee has recognized the junior tight end, as he was named to the organization's 36-player preseason watch list Friday.

The Fort Morgan, Colo., product garnered first-team All-Mountain West accolades after recording 45 receptions for 560 yards and four touchdowns. In his final three games of the campaign, he produced 21 of those catches for 245 yards, including a nine-catch, 101-yard performance against Boise State on the final weekend of the season. It was the first 100-yard receiving game of his career, complete with touchdown catch.

More than just a red-zone scoring threat, three of his scoring receptions covered 28 yards or more, including a career-best 69-yarder to open the scoring against Fresno State. Three of his four scoring catches last year produced the first points of the game for Colorado State.

A punishing blocker at the point of attack, McBride started 11 games a season ago and has appeared in all 24 games of his collegiate career. He now has 52 catches for 649 yards and five touchdowns on his ledger.

The Mackey Award is presented annually by the Friends of John Mackey to the top tight end in the nation in a vote of college football media and organization representatives. The committee will break down the candidates into a group of eight semifinalists, then three finalists in the final month of the season. The award is traditionally presented during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December.
