Back-to-Back Career Marks Earns MW Player of the Week honors for McKenna Hofschild

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Resetting her career-high mark in points twice in a week highlighted McKenna Hofschild's candidacy to garnering Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors, announced by the league office Monday.

The 5-foot-5 sophomore guard averaged 22 points, five assists, three rebounds and a steal per game in Colorado State's series split at UNLV. In game one against the Lady Rebels on Thursday, she upped her career mark from 19 to 20 points while dishing out eight assists in CSU's 80-76 loss. Picking up right where she left off, Hofschild dropped 24 points thanks largely to a career-best six 3s on Saturday en route to the Rams' 67-58 win.

Hofschild used her speed and energy in the second half of game one to her advantage as she notched 16 of her 20 points, keeping the Rams in striking distance. Her eight assists contributed to 21 points for her teammates. Colorado State leads the conference in assists with 170 dishes – 57 more than the next institution. Leading that way for the Rams is Hofschild with a MW-best 61, which is tied for seventh in the nation.

It took her no time to get in rhythm in Saturday's win with seven points in the first frame and at least five in each of the next three quarters. Showing that her speed is not her only asset, she drained 3s at will, connecting on 6-of-8 attempts. Previously, Hofschild's most treys in a game were three. She set the tone for CSU, hitting a 3 to close the first half, and start the second half while going coast-to-coast for a layup to begin the fourth quarter.

The Prior Lake, Minn. native went from averaging 12.6 points per game to now 14.5, nestling in as MW's No. 9 scorer right behind teammate Tori Williams. With Lore Devos two spots below Hofschild, the Rams have three players averaging at least 14 ppg – a feat only replicated by Fresno State and New Mexico within the conference.

The award is Colorado State's second weekly honor in 2020-21, which is the first time CSU has had multiple player of the week honorees since the 2017-18 season. Devos obtained the first award this season on Dec. 15 after notching three double-doubles.

The Rams are back in action against San Jose State on Thursday with a 6 p.m. tip.
