Rams Preseason Favorites, Runnels Named Preseason POY

Colorado State favored for the seventh-consecutive season.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State volleyball team is once again tabbed the conference favorite heading into the 2021 spring season by the league's coaches, the Mountain West announced Thursday. The Rams filled the preseason team with three of the eight positions, including Breanna Runnels named the Preseason Player of the Year.

Alexa Roumeliotis and Ciera Zimmerman were named to the preseason team for the first time, while Runnels was named to her third preseason team. Runnels also earned Mountain West All-Conference honors the last three seasons.

Colorado State received 92 votes, including five first-place votes out of 11, to be picked for the eighth-consecutive season to win the Mountain West championship.

UNLV was second with 90 votes and four first places votes, Wyoming third with 80 and a first place vote, Boise State was voted fourth after gathering 76 votes and San Diego State rounded out the top five with 70 votes and the final first-place vote.

The Rams have won 16 of the 21 regular-season Mountain West titles and hold a 298-40 (.881) league record during that span. CSU has been slotted first in the Mountain West preseason poll 13 times and have received at least one first-place vote every season. Of the previous 12 times the Rams were chosen first, they went on to win the league 10 times.
