CSU To Battle Top Field To Move Up In the Second Round of The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate

10/22/2021 6:41:00 PM | Men's Golf

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Battling against one of the strongest fields in the nation this year, Colorado State was unable to take advantage of softer greens and is currently 14th at the 2021 Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Friday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Georgia Tech University, is being played at The Golf Club of Georgia (Par 72 – 7,092 yards) in Alpharetta, Ga.

Overnight rains through the Atlanta area softened up the entire course significantly for the 14 teams ranked in the top 60 according to Golfstat, creating different play from the practice round. Playing in the opening wave, CSU battled colder temperatures and gusting winds and finished the day at 15-over 303. Defending national champion Pepperdine is tied with Texas A&M for the opening round lead at 13-under 275, four shots clear of East Tennessee State in third at 9-under 279. Duke is fourth at 8-under 280, with Tennessee in fifth at 7-under 281.

For the Rams, seniors Davis Bryant and Oscar Teiffel lead the effort at 2-over 74 in a tie for 46th. Freshman Christoph Bleier is next at 4-over 76, tied for 63rd. Junior Connor Jones shot a 7-over 79 to sit in 72nd, while freshman Jay Pabin is one shot back at 8-over 80, tied for 73rd.

CSU will go off No. 10 in the second round tomorrow, starting at 10:15 a.m. and playing with Virginia and Georgia Tech's individuals.
