Junior Guard Grabs her Second Mountain West Player of the Week Award this Season
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the second time in as many weeks and the third time in four weeks, a Colorado State women's basketball student-athlete was named Mountain West Player of the Week when the conference announced Tuesday morning that McKenna Hofschild was the latest recipient.
Â
This is the conference's fifth week of awards and Colorado State's three nods lead all institutions including the Freshman of the Week numbers, which a Ram has not won. Hofschild, of Prior Lake, Minn., is the first two-time recipient on the season for the Player of the Week award. Last week, Karly Murphy collected the accolade.
Â
Hofschild helped lead the Rams to a 2-0 week, improving Colorado State to 9-1 on the season – its best start since 2015-16 and just the seventh time CSU has been 9-1. Between the two games, the guard averaged 16.5 points, eight assists and three rebounds per game. From the free throw line, she went a collective 5 for 5 to make her 22-of-26 shooting on the season, which continues CSU's narrative of being one of the best in the country from the charity strike with the No. 4 spot nationally at 81%.
Â
Against Weber State, she dropped 23 points for her second 20+ scoring game of the season and fourth in her career. She also dished out five assists for the sixth game to tally at least that many this season. That number would increase to seven games, however in the next contest.
Â
On Sunday versus CSU Pueblo, Hofschild tallied 10 points and a career-high 11 assists to notch her first-ever double-double and CSU's first point-assist double-double since Ellen Nystrom (1/21/17).
Â
The award marks Hofshild's third career MW weekly honor as she earned her first last season (1/11/21).
