Kis Earns Conference Weekly Honor After Sweeping Throwing Events at Wyoming Power Meet
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore Mariano Kis was named Mountain West's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in last Friday's Wyoming Power Meet, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Â
Kis, the 2021 Mountain West Outdoor Shot Put Champion, has picked up where he left off last season with back-to-back strong showings in Colorado State's two opening meets. Prompting his first weekly conference accolade, Kis swept the throwing events of shot put and weight throw at the Wyoming Power Meet.
Â
The Buenos Aires, Argentina native won the shot put with a throw of 61'0.75'' that moved him from 18th to third all-time at CSU. On the NCAA Performance List, the mark puts him seventh in the nation and first in the MW. In the weight throw, Kis measured a 61'2'' for his second top-two finish in the event this season.
Â
Prior to this past weekend's action, Kis won the shot put at Air Force Holiday Open and finished runner-up in the weight throw with the latter registering 25th in the nation and first in the conference at 62'3.75''.
Â
The award is CSU's second weekly honor of the season in as many weeks since Jessica Ozoude was named the female track honoree last week.
Â
Next, the Rams will compete in the Potts Invitational starting Friday, Jan. 14th and ending Saturday, Jan. 15th in Boulder, Colo.
