Graduate Forward Earns First Mountain West Weekly Accolade
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State's warrior from this past weekend, Karly Murphy, was named Mountain West Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Â
Every time you looked Murphy was chasing down a rebound, diving on the floor for a loose ball or battling down in the box. She led the Rams to two wins in the Arizona State Classic that were decided by a total of 11 points and in the final quarter.
Â
The River Falls, Wis., native notched her third double-double of the season in game one against Harvard, tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds with the latter tying her season-high. She had four points in the final quarter to help secure the 59-52 win over the Crimson.
Â
In the finale at Desert Financial Arena on Arizona State's campus, the Rams outlasted a pesky UTSA squad for a 52-48 win to improve to 7-1 on the season. Murphy, a graduate forward, barely missed another double-double, accumulating a team-high 16 points with nine rebounds. She had five points in the final two minutes to stave off the Roadrunners. The first layup put the Rams down by one with 1:58 to play, while the second bucket pushed CSU's lead to three with 20 seconds left. She added a crucial free throw with eight seconds on the clock to make it a two-possession game.
Â
In both games, she shot an efficient 50% from the field and was 4-of-6 from the free throw line to make her 18-of-20 on the season.
Â
The award is the first for Murphy in a Ram uniform and second for CSU this season as McKenna Hofschild obtained the honor on Nov. 22nd.
