Colorado State Cruises to 73-60 Win over Weber State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – In what seemed like Colorado State's most complete game since the season opener, the Rams controlled throughout in the 73-60 win over Weber State Wednesday evening in Moby Arena.

The 13-point difference may not show that, but Upe Atosu's trey at the third-quarter buzzer to make it a 19-point lead did. CSU unloaded the bench in the fourth quarter with all 11 available players logging minutes. The last time that all the Rams clocked in was in the Louisville loss, but this marked the fourth time that it happened in a CSU winning scenario. The Rams moved to 8-1 for the second straight season and third time overall for Ryun Williams, counting the 2015-16 squad. The Wildcats dropped to 4-4 on their season.

"Being back in Moby Arena is everything," Williams said. "We have played so many games in such a short amount of time including two recent ones back-to-back away, which really tests a team's energy. It also tests the staff, but both came out with up-beat energy tonight. The bench was into it, the coaches were bringing it and when you have the Moby crowd behind that, it gives us that extra push. I'm very proud of this team and how they completed the assignment of continuing to play hard defense but finding their offense again with confidence."

Recording her second 20-point scoring game was McKenna Hofschild with a team-high 23 points while she also dished out a team-high five assists for her sixth game with at least that many. Atosu finished with 16 points with a perfect split between halves and she was a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line. The team continued its efficiency at the line, going 10-of-11 shooting. Kendyll Kinzer tied her season highs for points and rebounds with 13 and seven, respectively, with the latter representing the team high. Rounding out the double-digit scorers, Cali Clark chipped in 12 points and six rebounds for her fourth double-digit scoring game this season.

The Rams outscored the Wildcats in the first two quarters to take a 15-point lead to the half, up 37-22. CSU had 11 points off 12 WSU turnovers at that point and finished with 19 points off 20 Wildcat turnovers by game's end. CSU shot a blistering 52.9% from the floor in the second quarter and did not shoot below 40% the rest of the game en route to a 43.1% clip for the game.

With junior Sydney Mech out, freshman forward Clara Gomez played a season-high 12 minutes that featured a nifty pass underneath to Clark for her first-career assist. That exchange plus a Hofschild trey contributed to an 8-4 finish to close out the third quarter along with the Atosu buzzer beater.

Weber State's 60 points makes it the eighth opponent that CSU has kept to that number or lower this season. It's no wonder the Rams lead the Mountain West in scoring defense, relinquishing just 52.1 ppg to their opposition.

The Rams will continue play at home Sunday at noon against CSU Pueblo inside of Moby Arena.
