PALM DESERT, Calif. – In the opening round of the season, Colorado State shot a 1-under 287 and is tied for sixth at the 2021 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Friday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Wyoming, is being played at Classic Club (Par 72 – 7,322 yards) in Palm Desert, Calif.

The Rams were one of just seven squads in the 21-team field to go under par in the first round with their 1-under 287 tying them with Fresno State for sixth. No. 28 Kansas is the opening round leader at 14-under 274, two shots ahead of No. 39 Georgia Tech in second with Charlotte at 277 in third, Oregon in fourth at 278 and UCLA in fifth at 285.

Senior AJ Ott and junior Parathakorn Suyasri lead the team effort, as each posted a 3-under 69 on the first day of play to sit in a tie for 10th. Sophomore Oscar Teiffel is next at 2-over 74 in a tie for 52nd, while junior Cullen Plousha and sophomore Davis Bryant are tied for 67th at 3-over 75. Kansas's Luke Kluver is the individual leader at 7-under 65, two shots ahead of Oregon's Tome Gueant. Playing as an individual, junior Jack Ainscough is tied for 10th after a 3-under 69.

CSU will again go off No. 1 tomorrow morning in the second round, starting at 7:50 a.m. and playing with UCLA, Fresno State and San Diego.
