The Fort Collins native becomes just the seventh Ram to win multiple tournaments in a single season

PALM  DESERT, Calif. – AJ Ott continued his early season stellar play with his second straight individual win, pacing Colorado State to a sixth-place finish at the 2021 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Sunday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Wyoming, was played at Classic Club (Par 72 – 7,322 yards) in Palm Desert, Calif.

Ott came into the final day with a two-shot lead and was able to make that stand with a 4-under 68 and a 54-hole total of 11-under 205 to win by two over Georgia Tech's Noah Norton. The Fort Collins native made just three bogeys in 54 holes in this tournament and just nine in the two events so far as compared to one eagle and 30 birdies. He is the seventh CSU player with multiple individual wins in a single season, the 10th Ram in CSU history with multiple individual career wins and the first to win back-to-back tournaments since Blake Cannon did it in 2016-17. This was his seventh top-5, 12th top-10 and 18th top-20 finish in his 43 events played.

"What a great week for AJ with back-to-back wins," head coach Christian Newton said. "I couldn't be happier for him. He deserves every bit of the success he is having as he works so hard on a daily basis. It's awesome to see it paid off."

The Rams held position but were unable to put together the scores to move up, posting a 2-under 286, their best of the tournament, to finish at 1-over 865. No. 39 Georgia Tech won the event with a 16-under 848, seven shots clear of runner-up Charlotte at 9-under 855. No. 49 San Diego was third at 6-under 858, with Boise State (3-under 861) and Oregon (2-under 862) rounding out the top five squads in the 21-team field. CSU is now 45-33-1 against the Pac-12 programs over the last three-plus years.

Parathakorn Suyasri also recorded a top-20 finish, tying for 16th at even-par 216 following a 2-over 74 in the final round. This was his 11th top-20 finish of his collegiate career. Cullen Plousha posted a 2-under 70 in the final 18 and moved up to a tie for 38th at 4-over 220. Davis Bryant shot a 2-over 74 and tied for 65th at 9-over 225, while Oscar Teiffel finished at 18-over 234 in a tie for 94th. Playing as an individual, Jack Ainscough tied for 45th at 5-over 221.

CSU will return to the course March 8-10 at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic in Chula Vista, Calif.
