Rams Fall To Last-Second Shot At Nevada, 85-82
3/5/2021 9:44:00 PM | Men's Basketball
RENO, Nev. – Nevada hit a three with one second to play and a last-ditch three was waived off as the Wolf Pack captured an 85-82 win over Colorado State Friday night in Reno. With their five-game winning streak snapped, the Rams finished the regular-season at 17-5 and 14-5 in Mountain West action, while the Wolf Pack improved to 14-10 and 9-8 in the league.
Â
CSU took the early lead, scoring the first six points and quickly building a 13-point lead at 18-5. The host Wolf Pack chipped away and cut it to four at 37-33 with 2:13 to go on a Grant Sherfield layup. However, the Rams continued to stand strong, hit all 16 of their first-half free throws and led 44-37 at the halftime intermission.
Â
The second half was a war of attrition as the fouls continued to mount, and the teams traded leads throughout the final 20 minutes. It came down to the final minute as Kendle Moore tied it with a pair of free throws. Each team made a turnover before Sherfield hit an off-balance three with 1.0 to play to put the Wolf Pack up. CSU inbounded the ball, and guard Isaiah Stevens hit a 3 from 35 feet to possibly tie it. However, the official review showed he stepped out of bounds with 0.4 left, giving Nevada the ball and the win.
Â
Colorado State finished the game at 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the field, including 30.8 percent (8-of-26) behind the three-point line. Nevada was 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the floor and 40.7 percent (11-of-27) on threes. Nevada held a 36-31 advantage on the boards. The two teams were whistled for a combined 53 fouls on the night, resulting in 71 combined free throw attempts.
