Colorado State Adds Veteran Guard to Roster

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – Experience at the guard position is en route to the Colorado State women's basketball program with the signing of Upe Atosu, a graduate transfer from Butler.

"Upe is a very talented and tough basketball player," head coach Ryun Williams said. "She is a strong, athletic guard who can impact a game in numerous ways and will fit nicely with our productive and up-tempo style of play. Her experience and success internationally, as well as in the Big East and as a first team JuCo All-American excite us. We love the fight and competitiveness that Upe plays with and the attack mentality she brings to a game."

The 5-foot-9 guard started 15 games, averaging 27.3 minutes per contest in her senior season with the Bulldogs in 2020-21. Her 11.1 points per game clip was third on the team and 25th in the BIG EAST Conference. Among her scoring ability is her precision from the line where she connected on 88% from the free-throw line, ranking second in the conference. Facilitating is also in her repertoire as her 3.3 assists per game was 12th in the BIG EAST. She tallied eight double-digit scoring games this past season with a career-best 23 that she dropped against Xavier on February 22nd.

Atosu's first season with Butler, she started four of 23 games played and dipped into double digits seven times. Prior to arriving in Indianapolis, Atosu was the 13th-best JUCO prospect in the country and a NJCAA First Team All-American at Labette Community College in Parsons, Kansas. As a sophomore, she helped lead the Cardinals to a 23-6 overall record that resulted in a second place finish in the KJCCC (Region VI) standings. Within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, she led all conference games with 22.8 points per game and was named first team all-KJCCC in addition to garnering NJCAA Region VI first team honors. Overall, she averaged 19.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game during the regular season.

At the national level, Atosu, of Edo State, Nigeria, has competed on the Nigerian National Team, including the first-place finish in the 2017 FIBA Women's Afrosbasket tournament.

Atosu makes it four new Rams for the upcoming season, joining the group of three freshmen – Kylee Arzner, of McMinnville, Ore.; Anna Prim of Lleida, Spain; and Clara Gomez of Sabadell, Spain.
