Ram Receives Track & Field – Field Award for 2020
LAKEWOOD, Colo. – One last honor from yesteryear for Tarynn Sieg who was named the Track & Field – Field Award collegiate winner for the 2020 Sportswomen of the Year awards, announced Tuesday by the organization.
Â
Sportswomen of Colorado has been honoring female athletes for 47 years. Winners include all ages and all sports. The annual award ceremony was postponed to this year due to COVID-19 and was moved to a virtual celebration for all 2019 and 2020 winners. The Sportswomen of Colorado 46th & 47th Awards Celebration will be honored Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. MT. and have a combined 76 honorees between the two years.
Â
Sieg, a junior from Eaton, Colo., represents the eighth Colorado State Track & Field recipient of an award from the organization and the 10th honor in all. She joins Kiah Hicks (2016) and Loree Smith (2006) in earning the same field award.
Â
In 2020, Sieg earned USTFCCCA All-America honors for being in the shot put field for the NCAA Indoor Championships that was cancelled on the eve of competition in Albuquerque, NM due to the pandemic. The top 16 in the nation qualify for NCAAs and Sieg was among the last to punch her ticket as she unleashed her 55'6.5'' shot put to win the event at the Mountain West Championship and punch herself a ticket to nationals. It was the 12th-best throw in NCAA.
Â
Shot put was not the only thing that helped garner this award for Sieg. She also won the weight throw at the MW Championships, becoming just the third individual to win both the weight throw and shot put at indoors. The feat has been accomplished four times – three by a Ram as the aforementioned Smith did so twice.
