Conference Announces All-MW Honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Twenty-one Colorado State track and field student-athletes combined for 26 All-Mountain West  outdoor honors, announced by the league office Wednesday.
Â
The all-conference team is made up of the top three finishers in each event. For the second year in a row, Colorado State claimed the Mountain West Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, while the women finished second.
Â
Five student-athletes picked up two nods for their performance in Clovis, Calif. Two from the men's side with Tom Willems (2nd, 400m; 3rd, 200m) and Eric Hamer (1st, 10,000m; 2nd, 5,000m), while the women had three – all coming from the throwers section. Tarynn Sieg obtained hers with her shot put victory and a third-place in the hammer throw. Maria Muzzio won the discus and was third in the shot put. Gabi McDonald went second in the shot put and third in the discus.
Â
Of the 14 men honored, five were first-time recipients and were experiencing their first outdoor conference meet as a Ram. Those who added their first MW honor include Liam Mather (2nd, 110mH), Allam Bushara (2nd, Triple Jump), Mariano Kis (1st, Shot Put), Dawson LaRance (1st, 800m), and Ryan Eddings (2nd, 100m). On the women's side, McDonald and Haley Showalter (2nd, Hammer Throw) were first-time All-MW receivers from the throws section in addition to Jordan Lanning for her second-place heptathlon. Again, all three did so in their first MW outdoor meet.
Â
Hamer leads all of the Rams with eight career all-conference accolades including indoor and cross country. Sieg now owns six career all-conference honors with Muzzio trailing her by one.
Â
The All-MW awards join the two already received awards of Most Outstanding Performer to Eric Hamer and Men's Coach of the Year to Brian Bedard.
