Patchan Lands on Bednarik Award Watch List

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State defensive end Scott Patchan, who ranked among the nation's leaders in sacks and tackles for loss per game in 2020, was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List by the Maxwell Football Club today.

Patchan led the Rams with 7.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in four games played in 2020. He recorded at least one sack in every game played, with his 1.38 per-game average ranking him third in the country. His 1.88 tackles for loss per game placed him sixth nationally.

The transfer from Miami earned All-Mountain West recognition after finishing the season with 22 tackles, 10 of which were solo stops. He also led the team with three quarterback hurries. With Patchan leading the push, the Rams led the nation with 10.5 tackles for loss per game and ranked fourth nationally with 4.0 sacks per game.

The Bednarik Award, now in its 27th year, is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate defender. Patchan is one of eight Mountain West players on the watch list out of 90 players selected. Semifinalist for the award will be announced in early November, with the list of finalists revealed later that month. The award will be presented on the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 9, 2021.
