GUTENHOF, Austria – Colorado State men's golf signee Christoph Bleier drained a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the Austrian International Amateur Championship, Aug. 1. The event was played at Colony Club Gutenhof (Par 73) in Austria.
Â
Bleier led through two rounds of the event at 12-under 134, but a third-round 76 put him six shots back entering the final day. However, Bleier shot a 7-under 66 to finish at 16-under 276 in a tie with Irelands Felix Schrott. On the first playoff hole, the Austrian Junior Olympian made it count with a birdie to take home the title. This was his third straight top-3 finish in the event as he was runner-up in 2019 and third last year.
Â
Among the events this summer, Bleier has a runner-up finish in the Polish Men's Open Amateur Championship, played in the European Amateur and Amateur Team Championships and also earns spots in a pair of professional events, the Austrian Open and Euram Bank Open.
Â
"Christoph has had a great summer," CSU head coach Christian Newton said. "Winning his home country's amateur championship is very special. We are very excited for him to begin his collegiate career this fall."
Â
The Rams open the 2021-2022 season at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz., Sept. 10-12.
