Colorado State Cross Country Returns to the Fall

FORT COLLINS, Colo. –  The Colorado State Cross Country teams will return to its orthodox fall season as head coach Art Siemers announced Monday the schedule for the 2021 season.

The COVID-19 pandemic shifted last season into a shortened spring version of three meets, including the Mountain West Championships and no NCAA Regional. The Ram women pushed their season to four meets after finishing third at conference and advancing to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2007.

"Our men and women's cross country teams return our whole varsity squads this year so expectations are high" Siemers said. "Our women look to improve off an epic 2020-21 season.  We have the leadership, the work ethic, and now the National experience to build off in our race toward Tallahassee [NCAA site] in November. Our men struggled at times last cross country season with inexperience but rose to the occasion in outdoor track, running outstanding times and helping the men win another Conference Championship. Both groups are motivated and excited to get back to the traditional fall season and I believe our schedule puts them in a position to succeed come championship time."

Similar to the 2019 season, the Rams will hear the first race gun go off at the Great American Golf Course in Cheyenne, Wyo. for the Wyoming Open on Sept. 3rd. Two other local meets exist on the schedule with the Roadrunners Open (Sept. 17) down in Denver and the UCCS Open (Oct. 8) in Colorado Springs. In between those two meets will be the Rams' first test against more diverse and challenging opponents at the Bill Dellinger Invitational (Sept. 23) in Springfield, Ore, hosted by Oregon. The other one will be the University of Wisconsin's Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational (Oct. 15) in Madison prior to championship season.

For the first time in conference history, San Jose State will host the championship meet, which is scheduled for Oct. 28th at Baylands Park in San Jose, Calif. Two weeks later, the NCAA Mountain Regional will return in Provo, Utah at the Timpanogos Golf Course followed by the NCAA Championships (Nov. 20) a week later in Tallahassee, Fla. at the Apalachee Regional Park.
