Stanford Named Mountain West Offensive POW

The outside hitter earned her first weekly award from the league.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a solid offensive performance, which helped the Colorado State volleyball team start the Mountain West schedule with a perfect 2-0 mark last week, sophomore outside hitter Kennedy Stanford was tabbed the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. The award is the first of her career and the second of the season for the Rams.

Stanford paced the Rams' offense in both Mountain West matches last week, leading to a pair of sweeps. The outside registered 29 kills for a 4.83 average, while also being very efficient holding a .367 hitting mark. She recorded 60 swings in the pair of matches, having just seven errors. She started the week facing then-conference leader Boise State, flooring a team-high 13 kills and hitting .267. She capped the Mountain West opening weekend with 16 kills, while hitting .467 in the sweep against Utah State.

For the week, she averaged 5.42 points per set, almost a third of the Colorado State's total average of 17.17. In the service game, she was targeted 19 times, posting just two errors as a six-rotation player. She also finished with the second most digs for the week with a 2.33 average and added four blocks, including one solo.

Colorado State will continue Mountain West action this week, playing their third and fourth matches in a weeks' time. The Rams will host travel partner and Border War rival Wyoming on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m., MT first serve. CSU will finish the week on Thursday with its first conference road match at Fresno State at 7 p.m., MT. Both matches will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
