Day One at Potts Invitational Complete with Five Ram First-Place Finishes
BOULDER, Colo. – Out of the 11 events that the Rams participated, five concluded with a Ram in first place Friday for day one of the Potts Invitational.
Â
It had been a 33-day break for the Colorado State track and field program since its last meet before the holidays. Due to either COVID, contact tracing or not being ready, the Rams only sent down 22 student-athletes for day one, but nearly double that are anticipated to compete tomorrow.
Â
The day one first-place finishers included Celyn Stermer (pole vault), Jordan Lanning (high jump), Taryn Sieg Bown (weight throw), Makayla Williams (triple jump) and Mariano Kis (shot put).
Â
Upping her personal record by half an inch, Lanning measured a 5'9.25'' to put her in sole position of 10th on CSU's all-time history list after previously sharing the spot. The other PR on the day came from Williams who was half an inch from entering the top 20 list.
Â
Throwers, Kis and Sieg Bown, made it 3-for-3 in winning their respective events thus far on the season. For Stermer, it marked her second win in the vault this season and was extra fun, because who doesn't want to win on their Birthday?!
Â
Saturday's action consists of all things on the track and gets underway at 11 a.m. Live results can be found on cubuffs.com/tracklive.

On the first day back…
"We looked a like it was the first meet back from break. Now, we also were missing quite a bit of folks due to COVID or contact tracing. The ones that were able to go have had limited practice. However, it was great to get back into it. The student-athletes were excited to compete whether they knew they were ready or not. You can tell who was able to get training in over the break. We'll get back to practice for this group on technique and repetitions. Tomorrow, we will see how the track folks do in the same quiz so to speak."
