Earn swimmer, diver of the week after win over Air Force
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State's dual victory over Air Force on Saturday extended the program record for wins in a season to 14, and the performances from the day produced some more records, too.
Â
Senior Kristina Friedrichs was named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, while freshman Lindsay Gizzi was named the Diver of the Week, a program-record seventh and eighth honors of the season for the Rams.
Â
Friedrichs won a pair of races in the meet, the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly, as well as swimming a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team. She touched out the Falcons' Corbyn Cormack in the 100 fly, a matchup of the swimmers with the top two times in the event in the conference this season. This was Friedrichs first weekly honor in her career.
Â
For Gizzi, it was her fourth such honor this season, the most in any one year by a CSU diver and the most in the conference for 2021-22. She was also named Freshman of the Week earlier in the campaign. She won both the 1- and 3-meter springboard competitions on the day, shattering the school record in the 1-meter with a score of 335.05. She followed that up with a 308.50 on the 3-meter, just off her personal best; she ranks third in school history on the board with her 311.93.
Â
The Rams, currently 14-0, conclude their dual season Saturday with a meet at Northern Colorado, beginning at 10 a.m.
