The Allen, Texas junior is one of 10 national finalists for the award.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State junior guard Isaiah Stevens was named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Watch List, announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame today. The Cousy Award now is down to the final 10 players to name the top point guard in the country.
Â
Named after Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor now in its 19th year recognizes the top point guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in November, which has now been narrowed to 10.
Â
Not on the original watch list, Stevens has been a leader for the Rams this season, as the squad is off to its school-best tying start at 16-2. Stevens is among the leaders in the nation in several categories, including sixth with a 3.25 assist-to-turnover radio, 15th in free throw percentage at 89.8 and 37th in assists per game at 5.1. He ranks 11th in the Mountain West at 15.75 points per game, tops in free throw percentage, fifth in assists and tied for seventh through steals. In his last outing against UNLV, he had a career-high 35 points, including five three-pointers, eight rebounds and two assists.
Â
For his career, Stevens became the 32nd Ram to reach 1,000 career points and is currently 18th with 1,145. He is tied for fourth in career assists with 387, second in assists average, fifth in minutes average (33.8), sixth in free throw percentage (85.3), 13th in 3-point field goal percentage (39.9) and tied for 18th with 125 3-point field goals made.
Â
Bob Cousy played for Holy Cross from 1946-1950 winning an NCAA Championship in 1947. He was named a Consensus First-Team All-American in 1950. His success continued at the professional level as a six-time NBA Champion (1957, 1959-1963), NBA Most Valuable Player (1957) and 13-time NBA All-Star (1951-63). In 1996, he was named a member of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team.
