The Mountain West Preseason accolades were announced on Wednesday before virtual media days
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Signs of the 2022-23 women's basketball season are in the air, as the Mountain West announced its preseason accolades on Wednesday. Â
Â
Colorado State was selected to finish third in the 11-team conference, while senior McKenna Hofschild was named to the five-person Preseason All-Mountain West Team for the second time. Hofschild was named to the All-Mountain West team a season ago after being named the Mountain West Newcomer of the Year after 2020-21. The voting as done from the league's coaches and selected media members.
Â
Hofschild led Colorado State last season, starting every contest and averaged 16.9 points per game, which was second overall in the Mountain West. She also led the league and was No. 5 in the country with 6.5 assists per game and set Colorado State's single-season and single-game records.
Â
The Rams are set to return a pair of starters with Hofschild and Kendyll Kinzer – both started all 33 games last season. CSU will also return three student-athletes that combined for 37 starts. Petra Farkas and Sydney Mech recorded the majority of those starts.
Â
Colorado State added five transfers and four freshmen during the off season, which includes a veteran group. Of the transfers, four have logged multiple starts at their previous stops and played significant minutes. The Rams added a NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American from Casper College (Wyo.) in Joseana Vaz, who averaged 21.5 points per game during her time with the Thunderbirds.
