Aaron Katsuma and Emma Montie have new roles for CSU men’s hoops while Cole Gentry joins the staff

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Head Men's Basketball Coach Niko Medved has finalized his 2022-23 staff with the promotion of a pair of long-time staff members and the addition of a former All-Horizon League player.

Aaron Katsuma and Emma Montie step into the roles of Director of Recruiting and Director of Operations, respectively.

Katsuma is entering his fifth season at Colorado State, serving the past four as the Director of Operations. He came to Fort Collins after spending one year with Medved at Drake as the Bulldogs' director of operations.

Prior to his time at Drake, Katsuma spent seven years with the University of Minnesota men's basketball program, most recently in the 2016-17 season as the assistant director of player personnel. Katsuma also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant with the Gophers after a four-year tenure as a student manager. During his seven seasons in Minneapolis, the Gophers made four postseason appearances including an NIT title in 2014 and NCAA Tournaments in 2013 and 2017.

Katsuma earned a master's degree in applied kinesiology and a bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Minnesota.

"Aaron has been and is a vital part of everything we do in our program," Medved said. "I am blessed to have someone like him to work with every day. He will continue to do great things in this new role."

Monite steps into the role Katsuma left vacant as the Director of Operations after spending the past four seasons as the director of men's basketball administration.

Before CSU she spent four seasons working with the University of Minnesota men's basketball program, including the last two as a graduate assistant manager. In that role, she coordinated player schedules, team practices, and other relevant scheduling needs while assisting with all team practices and events. She also handled road operations while the team was traveling, working alongside operations staff, and organized scheduling, preparation, and hospitality for student recruit visits.

"Anyone who has been around our program understands the impact and role that Emma has," Medved said of Montie. "She is ready to have an even bigger role and we are lucky to have her in our program."

Finally, the Rams welcome Cole Gentry to the program as a graduate assistant. The St. Charles, Illinois native played for three seasons at Wright State after transferring there from South Dakota State. Gentry finished his career surpassing the 1,000 points scoring mark. He went on to play professionally in the British basketball system.

Gentry has previous graduate assistant experience at Wisconsin during the 2020-21 season.

"We are excited to add someone like Cole join our staff. He was an outstanding player and will be an outstanding coach," Medved added. "He will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our players daily."

The 2022-23 Rams tip off their season with an exhibition on Friday, October 28 against MSU Denver before the regular season starts on November 7 against Gardner-Webb.
