Wilson Adds a Pair of Top Golfers to Men’s Program

SU men’s golf welcomes Jake Rodgers and Derek Lekkerkerk to the 2023 recruiting class.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Head coach Michael Wilson welcomes a pair of top junior golfers to the Ram Family with the signing of Jake Rodgers and Derek Lekkerkerk. The duo makes their way to Fort Collins from the Pacific Northwest in Oregon and Idaho, respectively.
Jake Rodgers | Mulino, Ore. | Canby HS
Rodgers, a Mulino, Oregon native, is the top recruit from the state and ranks No. 983 in the WAGR. He brings a long list of accolades, including the PNGA Junior Amateur Championship and first place at the FCG Western State Players Championship, 2022 GCG Pacific Northwest Championship, FCG Oregon Fall Slam and Eastern Oregon Junior. Rodgers also was the runner-up at the 2022 GCG Calloway World Championships.

Derek Lekkerkerk | Twin Falls, Idaho | Twin Falls HS
Lekkerkerk comes to Colorado from Twin Falls, Idaho, playing at Twin Falls High School. He is a two-time Idaho Junior America's Cup member and was the 4A individual state champion as a sophomore. Lekkerkerk's performance also helped TFHS to a team title that season.
To go along with those accolades, he has seven top 20 finishes in the past year including taking second at the Dripping Junior Championship competed at Red Hawk Country Club. In 2021, Lekkerkerk took second at the Idaho Junior State Am.
He has not only been successful on the golf course but raised $6,500 for the Make-A-Wish foundation as a part of his senior project.

"In going through the recruiting process with Derek, it became very evident that he has a massive enjoyment for the game and loves to compete. These are important qualities we look for in young players and we know Derek will be proactive in his work on the course and in the classroom. Lekkerkerk on Why He Chose CSU
"I chose CSU because of the great facilities and courses the golf team has access to, the opportunity to be coached by Michael Wilson, and to get a great degree. I believe the program at CSU is a special place right now and I am excited to be a part of it."
Rodgers and Lekkerkerk join a CSU men's golf program that is currently ranked in the top 25 nationally and has the No. 7 player in the nation returning for his final year of eligibility next year in Conner Jones.
Colorado State is coming off an impressive fall season as winners of three of four events and taking second place in the other. Jones took the individual title at two of the four events as well.
