Senior Meghan Boyd shot 7-for-9 from behind the arch to pace Colorado State who finished 14-of-23 from three
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The three-pointers were falling Tuesday night in Moby Arena, as Colorado State's rolled past Western Colorado, 86-56. The Rams dropped 14 threes in the victory, including going 7-for-7 in the first quarter. Meghan Boyd led CSU with 22 points, shooting 7-for-11 from the floor and 7-for-9 from downtown.
"This team does shoot the ball well," said head coach Ryun Williams. "We are a good three-point shooting team. Meghan is a very very good three-point shooter. I think we shared the ball and I think our decision making was really good tonight – finding shooters in rhythm. Players ready to catch and shoot is a big part of that percentage."
Colorado State started fast, taking a 27-12 lead after the first quarter, which featured the Rams hitting seven threes to close the frame. CSU extended its lead in the second quarter to 20 points before closing the half, scoring close to the hoop, making its last four baskets in the paint.
After the break, Colorado State's defense clamped down and kept the Mountaineers to a game-low 10 points in the third quarter. The Rams offense didn't slowdown through, dropping another 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including another 5-for-7 from three. In the final 10 minutes, CSU was able to play much of the bench and led by an many as 35 after a pair of free throws from Marta Leimane.
The Rams had three players in double-figure scoring, led by Boyd with 22, followed by McKenna Hofschild with 20 on 8-of-10 shooting. Cailyn Crocker also hit double-digits with 16 points and was 4-for-4 from behind the arch. Both Cali Clark and Hannah Ronsiek pulled down six boards apiece, while Ronsiek snagged three steals. Hofschild added eight assists to her total and didn't have a turnover to accelerate her assist/turnover ratio to 28:3 on the season
