Rams Ready to Run at NCAA Championships

11/18/2022 9:05:00 AM | Cross Country

Colorado State will send both teams to Stillwater, Okla., for the first time since 2004

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After a successful season, it will all come to a head this weekend as Colorado State sends both squads to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2004. The Rams will run at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla., hosted by Oklahoma State on Saturday, Nov. 19.

"It's an incredible achievement to get one team to the National Championships, so to have two is special," said head coach Andrew Epperson. "Especially with it being the 5th time in school history and the first time in 18 years."

The Championship will start with the women's 6K race at 8:20 a.m., MT followed by the men's 10K race at 9:10 a.m., MT.

The Rams were one-of-13 at-large teams selected to join the 18 automatic bids for the national meet. Thirty-eight individuals were also selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their regions.

The women earned their way by finishing fourth at the NCAA Mountain Regional last week, including ahead of two higher-ranked teams, in what was the toughest regional out of the nine across the country. The men also finished sixth in the toughest regional, holding six national ranked teams.

"The Rams will represent CSU and the Mountain West well," added Epperson. "I am fortunate to be surrounded by an incredible staff and group of student athletes who want the highest achievement for their teammates above anything else."

SENDING PAIRS:
Colorado State is just one of 14 programs sending both men's and women's teams to the NCAA Championship. The Rams are also the only Mountain West school to send both squads and is one-of-four programs in the Mountain Region sending the pair.

After a successful NCAA Regional race, the men's squad moved up a spot to No. 27 in the latest USTFCCCA National poll. The women's team also made a jump, hitting No. 12 this week which is one shy of their best-ever mark and highest of the season. The women's team was also ranked No. 12 during last season.
