Colorado State turned the ball over nine times in the first half, leading to 12 points for Auburn

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Colorado State had the ball out of bounds with less than a second on the clock, but couldn't convert, suffering a 74-73 loss to Auburn in the final game of the Las Vegas Invitational, taking place at the Mirage. The Rams turned the ball over nine times in the first half, allowing the Tigers to score 12 points, which was the difference.

Colorado State (4-2) will return to the Front Range and play at Northern Colorado on Tuesday.

The first half against Auburn saw eight lead changes and four tie scores. Colorado State led by as many as eight – largest lead of the game, while the Tigers built a five-point advantage early in the first quarter. The Rams took a lead in the second after a handful of free-throws and a pair of 3-pointers gave them a 30-22 advantage.

Colorado State also turned the ball over nine times in the first half – a season high – which Auburn turned into 12 points. CSU shot just 31 percent from behind the arc in the first half, led by Sydney Mech dropping a pair to score 10 points. McKenna Hofschild also reached double-figure digits in the first half, leading the team with 12 points, including dishing out five assists and adding four boards.

After the break, Auburn pushed their lead to six with about six minutes left in the quarter, but the Rams responded down the stretch. A 5-0 run gave CSU a one-point lead and both teams traded baskets until the horn.

In the final frame, CSU took a four-point advantage before Auburn rattled off six-straight points to retake the lead. With four minutes left, an Auburn player went down with an injury and the game was put on hold for nearly 50 minutes. Following the unexpected break, the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to lead by five. The Rams' offense returned with baskets of their own to tie the game 73-73 with 21 seconds left. With less than a second left, Auburn drew a foul to go to the line for two shots – making the first and missing to give CSU one last shot. Unfortunately, Colorado State couldn't convert the set piece and fell to Auburn, 74-73.

Colorado State finished shooting 47 percent from the floor (24-for-51) and 38 percent from long range (8-for-21).

McKenna Hofschild led all scorers with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting. The senior also added seven assists and seven rebounds. Sydney Mech also reached double-figures with 15 points with 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Meghan Boyd and Cailyn Crocker also added double-digits with 11 and 10 points, respectfully
