Rams Add Four Athletes to 2022 Signing Class

Colorado State starts 2022 signing class with four distance runners
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Track and Field team announced Friday the addition of four new athletes to the 2022 signing class. Mary Schultz, Mari Konold, Ava Escorcia and Ezra Burrell will all join the Ram family in 2023. All four athletes will compete in distance events for the track and field team as well as being eligible for cross country season next fall.

"We are thrilled to kick off the 2023 recruiting class with the addition of Ava, Ezra, Mari and Mary," Head Cross Country coach Andrew Epperson said. "Since stepping foot on campus, we knew each of these athletes would have a positive impact on our team culture and continue the storied success of our championship programs."

Shultz is a middle-distance runner out of New Albany High School in Ohio. The incoming freshman boasts a personal record in the 800 of 2:15 and placed 8th at the 2021 Ohio outdoor track state meet in the 800-meter run last season.

Konold is a distance runner out of Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah. The incoming freshman just finished second at the 5A Utah state cross country championships. She also finished 3rd in both the 1600 and 3200 at the 2021 state track meet, where she ran a PR in both events. Running at altitude, she ran a 10:40 for the 3200 and 4:59 for the 1600. Konold has also competed well on the national scene and finished 34th at last year's Garmin Runninglane cross country championships.

Escorcia is a distance runner out of Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado. Her career personal records include running a 10:54 for the two-mile, 4:58 for the 1600, and 2:16 for the 800. She was a three-event qualifier for the 2021 Colorado State Track Meet and competed well at last year's Garmin Runninglane cross country championships, finishing in 44th place.

Burrell is a distance runner out of Brebeuf Jesuit High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Burrell finished third at the 2021 Indiana state track meet with a PR of 4:12 in the 1600.

The Colorado State Track and Field season will kick off this year at the Air Force Holiday Open on December 2nd in Colorado Springs.
