Colorado State boasts multiple event wins in first meet of season

US AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Colorado State Track and Field team opened up its 2022-23 Indoor Season at the Air Force Holiday Open Friday afternoon.

From Rams making their CSU debut to athletes beginning their fifth season in a green and gold uniform, Colorado State boasted top performances as well as great early-competition experiences for those athletes who are trying to stride towards personal bests.

Starting with field events, throwers Gabby McDonald and Mya Lesner got the Rams off to a hot start as the two finished first and second respectively in the women's shot put. Lesner also finished second in the women's weight throw with McDonald finishing fourth. For the men, Mariano Kis finished third in the weight throw.

The Rams also took home a sweep of the triple jump with Allam Bushara claiming the first-place victory on the men's side and Jo-Anna Pinnock jumping to first place for the women. Similarly, Colorado State had a second-place finish for both the men and women in the pole vault with freshman Sam Mrky taking second for the men and Celyn Stermer finishing second for the women.
Lastly, CSU boasted two Rams in the top three finishers of the high jump with Sharde Johnson placing second and Sierra Haberman placing third.

Moving to the track, freshman Carsen Bruns started his Colorado State career with an event win as the sprinter won the men's 300-meter with a time of 35.07 followed close behind by Tyler Colwell who finished second. Fellow freshman Abigail Groleau added a great sprinting debut herself finishing fourth in both the women's 60-meter and 300-meter events.
For the women, Colorado State had four athletes finish in the top ten in the 60-meter hurdles including Jahzara Davis finishing second, Lexie Keller, fifth, Neya Jamison, sixth and Ella Thomas, ninth.

The Rams will compete in one more meet, next weekend at UC-Colorado Springs, before entering a month-long holiday break before resuming their indoor season in the new year.
