CSU Improves In Afternoon Round; Sits In 10th After 36 Holes of The Show at Spanish Trail

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Colorado State made a significant improvement from its opening round and is currently 10th through 36 holes of The Show at Spanish Trail, Feb. 14. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by UNLV, is being played at Spanish Trail Country Club (Par 72 – 6,402 yards) in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
The morning round had its challenges as the Rams finished the first 18 at 12-over 300 in 13th, but rallied in the afternoon with 10-shot improvement as a team, posting a 2-over 290 for a 36-hole total of 14-over 590. Host No. 44 UNLV is the leader at 17-under 559, ahead of Nevada by five shots at 12-under 564. August is third at 2-under 574, as the only other team under-par through the first two rounds. Cal Poly, North Florida and No. 43 Furman are tied for fourth at 7-over 583.

"We had a little bit of a tight start but then we hung in there and finished very strong," head coach Laura Cilek said. "I am proud of the way we stuck in it and moved up the leaderboard."
 
Junior Andrea Bergsdottir is the top Ram in a tie for 18th at even-par 144, having posted two even-par rounds on the day. Freshman Lacey Uchida is next in a tie for 34th at 3-over 147, having improved three shots in the afternoon over her morning round with an even-par 72. Sophomore Sofia Torres is next at 7-over 151 in a tie for 57th with junior Gabby Minier one shot back at 8-over 152 in a tie for 62nd, having improved eight shots with an even-par 72 in the second round. Pemika Arphamongkol is tied for 69th at 9-over 153, but improved seven shots from her first round in her second 18. Nevada's Leah John is the individual leader by four shots at 9-under 135.
 
The Rams will go off in a shotgun start on Tuesday, starting at 9 am MT.
